Biography

                                                         



Hristo Petrov was born on 13th January 1988 in Bulgaria. He started taking piano lessons at the age of 7. At the age of 14 he became a student of the Music School “Panayot Pipkov” in Pleven where his piano teacher was Antoaneta Vodenicharova. In 2007, after graduating from the music school he was accepted in Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen, The Netherlands. There he studied with prof. Tamara Poddubnaya and prof. Paul Komen. After that he did his Master studies at the Utrecht Conservatory in the class of prof. Klara Wurtz. For the period from 2008 until 2013 his studies were sponsored by a private foundation for young talents- “St. Labberté-Hoedemaker Fonds”. 

 

He is a prizewinner of the following competitions in Bulgaria:

“Svetoslav Obretenov”- in Provadiya, 2004 – special prize of the name of prof. Luba Obretenova

“Classic and Contemporaneousness” in Stara Zagora, 2005 (participating in a category for piano duos with Ivan Penkov ) – second prize 

 “Competition for Russian music” in Pleven, 2005 - fourth prize

Audition organized by music school”Panayot Pipkov”, Pleven 2006 - He was chosen to perform Second Piano Concerto of Saint Saens with the Philharmonic orchestra of Pleven.

 “Hopes, Talents, Masters” in Dobritch – Albena, 2010 – first prize.

In the Netherlands he has also taken part in several competitions and festivals:

Peter the Great Festival, Groningen – 2007, 2008, 2010 – winning a prize every year.

Festival in Schiermonnikoog – 2008, 2009, 2012

Princess Christina Competition, 2008 - second prize. 

 Audition for playing with orchestra organized by Utrecht Conservatory, 2012 - he was chosen to perform in several locations Mozart Piano Concerto no. 12 with an orchestra formed by the Utrecht Conservatory.

In 2009 he took part in “International Piano Festival” – Portland, Maine USA and International Music Festival "Music Without Borders", Bethel, Maine, USA

 

He has followed master classes with many professors, such as: Milena Mollova, Atanas Kurtev, Victor Chuchkov, Tamara Poddubnaya, Ludmil Angelov, Ilona Timchenko, Sally Pinkas, Evan Hirsch, Jan Wijn, Vladimir Trop, Frank Glazer, Pascal Devoyon, Arcadi Volodos, Jacques Rouvier and others. 

Besides his musical prizes, he has also won prizes at poetry competitions in Bulgaria. He has two published books and he is the youngest member of the Bulgarian Assosiation of Writers since 2018.
